Baltic Analog Lab
with Marek Waldemar Pluciennik (FI) and Başak Günak (TR/DE)
Baltic Analog Lab invites you to a performance evening with our two resident artists of the SPECTRAL/Expanding North project - Marek Waldemar Pluciennik from Finland and Başak Günak from Turkey, who are participating in our residency this October.
During the residency Başak worked with our other resident - Marek, experimenting with the sonic possibilities of Marek's film projector and film, using the optical sound of the projector, as well as its errors. Meanwhile Marek was working in the residency improving his 35mm film projector working with LED light and its strobing capabilities, both filming on 35mm film, developing and duplicating it, as well as projecting on his hand-cranked 35mm film projector. Berlin-based, Istanbul born Başak Günak is a sound artist,performer and composer, also internationally known as AH! KOSMOS in the field of electronic music.
Günak pursues her sound experimentations as a sound artist, composing soundscapes for film, theater, contemporary dance and visual art projects, and realising site-specific performances.
Her works have been featured worldwide in several festivals and institutions.
Marek Pluciennik is cinema artist based in Helsinki. His work focuses on the materiality of film medium. He hacks projectors to explore visual motion perception in the frame-based medium. Aside from films, his work is site specific, focusing on expanded cinema projection performances and installations.
The presentation will happen in premises of Baltic Analog Lab (Lienes iela 19a).
Audience is welcome to bring their own snacks and drinks for the mutual table at BAL.

SPECTRAL/ Expanding North are two projects that unite artist-run film laboratories, which during year 2022-2025. organizes several events dedicated to expanded cinema, offering both a platform for the creation of new works and the distribution, promotion of such works.
Amongst partnering organisations are: Filmwerkplaats (NL), Baltic Analog Lab (LV), Filmverkstaden (FI), Polar Film Lab (NO), LaborBerlin (DE), LIFT (CA), Crater Lab (ES), LAIA (PT), Mire (FR), AVANT (SE).
The projects are supported by Creative Europe, Latvian Ministry of Culture and Nordic Culture Point.
