Baltic Analog Lab announces a new artist-in residence program for artists and researchers working with photochemical film – both photographers and filmmakers with experience in working in a darkroom and with analog devices.

The residency offers artists and researchers to work on their projects by providing access to a darkroom, projectors, screen, sound system and other devices if needed. The residency is located in Riga, Latvia at the artists-run film lab Baltic Analog Lab and is offering a month or two

month long stay at the apartment next to the lab. The aim of the residency is to provide a space for working with analog film, photography or expanded cinema by providing access to our space that can be used for the creative process as well as public presentations, workshops, screenings etc.

Participation fee

The residency fee is 450 EUR per month which partly has to be paid upfront to ensure the participation. We do not offer any financial support, however we can offer invitation letter for the residents to apply for their fuding in their own country. The participant is responsible for their own travel, living and material costs during the residency.

Who can apply?

We are looking for artists who are working with analog, photochemical film and photography and are interested in exchanging ideas with other artists and our local community. The applicants should be already practicing artists with skills in working in the darkroom, no training will be provided unless with a separate agreement. We also accept applications for researchers willing to interact with our cultural scene in Riga.

Duration of the residency:

We offer our residency for 1-2 months.

What we offer:

- Shared 3 room apartment next to our lab (shared between two artists or just one). The apartment has two cozy isolated bedrooms, one shared living room together with kitchen, shared bathroom and wooden stoves in each bedroom (wood will be provided).

- 24/7 access to the BAL facilities: 2 darkrooms, one working room, one dark screening room with a screen and sound system

- Possibility for presentations or workshops at our lab’s screening room

What we expect:

- The resident should do their creative work during the residency and should be open to share their project with our local community at a small public presentation, however we do not require the work to be completed during the residency;

- We will prioritise applicants that can also offer us a 2 day workshop or a public screening, but that is not mandatory.

Schedule:
